Hiked the west glacier trail then got off to make my way to the glacier. The trail isn't bad, moderate. However, if you take the road less traveled to the Ice caves it is pretty strenuous. You'll be climbing, jumping, scaling rocks and there are several areas where you're sliding down loose gravel and sand. The trail is marked but you have to really pay attention to the colored ties on branches. Now, I'd say this isn't for beginners. Also I'd say be in decent shape. I hiked about 8 miles roundtrip. If you do just the west glacier trail it's more forgiving and easier to navigate so that's any level hiker. The views are phenomenal. This is the most beautiful hike I've done to date (and I've hiked about 300 miles this year in 7 states,2 countries, so that's saying something). It's a unique and magical experience that I will forever cherish. nice pathways these pics are not of the actual forest but the pathways around creek street. there is a small hill? that has paths leading towards the forest. If I had some camping time and equipment the weather was perfect but rain would soon come. anyway loved it...... This forest is absolutely beautiful. We are so lucky to have this asset in our country. Make sure you dress you dress for the season with layers you can add on or remove depending on the weather. Appreciate this lovely magical place and live in the moment while there! Absolutely amazing place! My biggest advice would be to dress in layers, no matter what time of year you are visiting as Alaskan days can vary from hour to hour, especially in the summer. Awesome to walk through with a guide. Visited the raptor centre. This was great to see so many Eagles being cared for after their accidents
